  • Hypothyroidism? This Lifestyle Plan May Help.

Suffering from Hypothyroidism? These Lifestyle and Diet Changes May help You. Like diabetes, this one too is a silent killer that can hamper your lifestyle even in its mildest form, causing: fatigue weight gain hair loss mood swings irregular periods and dry skin, among other issues In its severest form, if left untreated, it can lead to myxedema, a life-threatening condition that can lead to a loss of consciousness, or even coma. “The thyroid gland is our master gland for metabolism. When it is not producing enough thyroid hormones like in the case of hypothyroidism, everything slows down, leading to these symptoms,” Among the many causes that lead to these imbalances, our environment exposure also plays a huge role on our thyroid health. “Heavy metals get attached to the thyroid tissue and impact the conversion of T4 to T3 (T3 is the active hormone that our cells utilize to produce energy). We are exposed to lead through house paint and old water pipes, cadmium from secondary cigarette smoking, mercury toxicity from dental amalgams and also fish. As such, heavy metal exposure hugely impacts your thyroid function. I believe in the trinity of health—body, mind and spirit—and that one needs to be balanced at all these levels for optimal health. Here, I share five tips that can help hypothyroidism symptoms. The top five lifestyle changes you can make to control hypothyroidism Exercise: You need to do this to stimulate your metabolism, but you shouldn’t push yourself too hard either. Intermittent exercises that increase the heart rate are very helpful. For example, do 50 jumping jacks thrice a day. Drink water: You should consume enough—we suggest half your body weight in ounces. So if you weigh 150lbs, drink at least 75 ounces of water per day. Meditate: These days, we are always on the go. Multitasking and constant stimulation brings stress to our bodies. Take a moment to just breathe. Practice 20 minutes of meditation. I recently attended the Inner Engineering program by Sadhguru (Isha Foundation) and learned the Shambhavi Kriya he teaches. It is wonderful flow of yoga asanas, breathing and meditation. Change your diet: I  recommend a mostly plant-based diet with a balance of carbohydrates, proteins and healthy fats. Do not skip carbs completely as good carbs are essential for conversion of T4 to T3, which is the active thyroid hormone. Avoiding carbs is a common mistake people with hypothyroidism make when they are trying to lose weight—it only works against them. Eat smaller meals: Five to six meals is ideal. If you go long hours between eating, it slows down your metabolism, which is the problem in hypothyroidism to begin with. A good sample diet to follow: 8am: Protein smoothie (with vegan protein powder) + spinach+ strawberries 11am: A handful of nuts (Brazil nuts, almonds, walnuts) 1pm: Boiled eggs and salad 4pm: Apple with cashew butter 7pm: Quinoa with cooked veggies In addition to Diet & Lifestyle changes, add Thyroid Supplements to your daily protocol. • Herbs for Hypothyroidism: Naturopathic Medicine

Ashwagandha Ashwagandha is known as an adaptogenic herb. Adaptogen herbs mean they help you adapt and deal with stress. They adapt to the need. Thus, it would help in both hypothyroid and hyperthyroid conditions by optimizing the thyroid hormone production. In Ayurvedic Medicine, the literal Indian meaning of its name is “smell of the horse”. I think about it like this, when you take this herb, you will feel the horse power. Kelp Kelp is one food that has a plethora of iodine in it. Iodine is one of the minerals required in formation of the thyroid hormone. Kelp, or bladderwrack, is a brown type of seaweed which people have used when traditional medications have not worked in fighting thyroid issues. Kelp can come in many forms. First, kelp can be eaten raw in its seaweed form. People may also try kelp in teas, supplements, or extracts. Fucus Fucus vesiculosus is primarily used to enhance thyroid function in cases of goiter and as an aid in weight loss for obesity. It is a good source of iodine. Siberian Ginseng This herb works best for those who have an underactive thyroid. It helps to give the body energy, which makes it perfect for addressing the fatigue that often accompanies low thyroid function. Siberian ginseng is a gentle stimulant that will give you that boost of energy you want without the crash later on. Nettle Sometimes referred to as stinging nettle, this is thought to be perhaps the perfect thyroid tonic, as it offers a balance between those suffering from an underactive thyroid or an overactive thyroid. Nettle is especially good for those with an underactive thyroid because it helps to reverse an iodine deficiency. Want to find a SottoPelle Provider? Click here. • How To Identify the Reasons You Don't Feel Energized

Coffee, energy drinks, and foods that claim to increase your energy are everywhere for a reason. We have become a society of people who must hustle and always be productive to the point of burnout. We crave more energy to simply get through the day. Women, you know all about stress. You have the physical energy of lifting kids into car seats, go to work, the stress pregnancy and monthly hormonal changes add to your body. Then there’s the mental energy in taking care of your family, work, and your to-do list. These two forms, mental and physical energy, need to be refilled daily. The mitochondria are our powerhouses of Energy. They produce energy and many factors influence our energy levels. The balance of all the hormones is definitely a key, in particular the Thyroid, Adrenal and Testosterone hormones. My philosophy in practice has always been to find the root cause of the problem and a solution for the same. Nutrient deficiency has become very prevalent since the soil where our food grows is depleted of all the nutrients that it once had many years ago. On the other hand, we have made bad food choices like eating processed foods which comes in boxes and cans and have moved away from eating the “Real Foods”. The addition of pesticides in our foods is another big topic all together. Bottom line is that we lack essential nutrients which negatively affect our energy. Spectracell’s Micronutient Testing has been a wonderful functional testing method to assess for these nutrient deficiencies. It is performed by a simple blood draw and provides a comprehensive report checking all the B- vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidant levels and more. Remember, your health relates back to your gut. Food is energy, so making sure you make healthy food choices is vital. The food choices you make and how often you eat will directly impact your energy. Eat balanced meals that provide all the three macronutrients, good carbs from multi-colored veggies and fruits, healthy fats like avocados, nuts and coconut oil, and a lean protein. Eating five to six small meals a day keeps one’s metabolism and energy levels up, unlike choosing an energy drink to kill your appetite, which not only gives you short bursts of energy but will eventually lead to adrenal fatigue if you start depending on them. Your energy depends on how good your sleep is at night. Do you wake up rested or do you need a cup of coffee to get you going? Are you dragging during the day and wired-up at night? If you have any of these symptoms, definitely consider doing a hormone panel, including a complete thyroid and adrenal panel. The saliva-based comprehensive adrenal test is called Adrenal Stress Index. Consider heavy metal testing. Knowing the toxins or metals in you may help to decide if they are causing a depletion of your energy levels by unbalancing your hormones, thus affecting your thyroid. Regular exercising keeps your energy levels up. There is no excuse for not having time to exercise. There are so many options to choose from, like jogging at your neighborhood park, taking a yoga class, joining a gym, and if you cannot find even twice a week to commit to this, then follow some YouTube videos in the comfort of your home. Women and men nearing their forties begin to complain of low energy. At this point in life, make sure that you check your testosterone hormone levels. Yes, it is as important in women as it is in men. Testosterone deficiency is directly related to the drop in your energy. Mental energy is vital to your overall health as well. Since stress affects your thyroid and adrenals, it is important to learn how to cope with your stress in order to preserve your energy. A little reminder: A good place to start to relieve the worries in your mind is by practicing meditation, mason jar gratitude notes, journaling, and walking or jogging out in nature. At my office, we recommend weekly “Energy Booster Shots” to our patients. It is a perfect mix of B-vitamins, MIC- which is an amino acid combination that works as a fat burner, chromium that helps metabolize sugars, AMP which converts to ATP (our energy building block). You can be an energetic person well into old age. I have many patients who are in their eighties and have the energy of someone much younger. It’s possible for you too. • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Treatments Often Ignore Chronic Symptoms That Arise Later

What is TBI? Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is usually a result of a forceful impact to the head or body, causing physical damage to the brain. A more severe impact can cause bruising, bleeding and other damage that can create devastating emotional and cognitive problems. Standard therapies focus on treating the initial trauma and injury to the brain but tend to ignore the chronic symptoms that can arise years after the initial injury. Researchers are starting to discover that brain trauma can trigger deficiencies in certain hormones. There is evidence that replacing these deficient hormones in people with TBI can reduce the functional deficits felt in attention, memory, executive functioning and sleep. Some research also suggests that replenishing hormones in dementia and Alzheimer’s patients may also help to inhibit the progression of these diseases. How TBI Causes Hormonal Issues The hypothalamus and pituitary gland in the brain regulate the production of hormones and hormone factors. A healthy body and brain communicate constantly in order to create a healthy, natural balance of hormones. Trauma to the brain can often damage the hypothalamic-pituitary system and can severely impair normal hormonal function. It is believed that hypopituitarism -when the pituitary fails to produce normal hormones levels – affects 50% to 76% of TBI sufferers over time. Growth hormone binds to receptors found in the brain, especially in regions responsible for learning and memory. The sex hormones, specifically, are also closely related to cognitive function and dysfunction. Sex hormones can function directly as neurotransmitters in the central nervous system. SottoPelle® TBI Treatment for Former Athletes Offensive lineman Joe DeLamielleure retired from the NFL in 1985 at the age of 34. But years before being named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2003, he began showing TBI symptoms. His symptoms included headaches, bursts of anger, and a 68% hearing loss in his left ear, which he attributes to years of right-handed defensive linemen slapping him in the head. “You turn 50 and suddenly, things change,” he says. “I thought it was depression, but there were other things besides that. High anxiety. I never slept. I lived football, I loved football,” - Joe DeLamielleure “I look at how I am now and I think, ‘Is this a temporary thing or am I going to end up like Mike Webster?’” Joe DeLamielleure Frustrated with the lack of options within mainstream medicine, DeLamielleure sought help from Dr. Tutera, founder of SottoPelle®. DeLamielleure and two other Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees — Paul Krause and Bobby Bell — had heard that Tutera and his colleagues were having some success treating the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. • POWER-PACKED PEPTIDES: A New Generation of Peptide Therapy

Peptide therapy is gaining popularity, not only because of the healing and regenerative benefits they offer, but also because they are smarter, safer, and more effective alternatives to human growth hormone replacement. If you are 30 or older, are you starting to notice: Weight gain, muscle loss, decreased energy levels, reduced strength and stamina, low libido or sexual dysfunction, poor sleep and aging skin? These are all symptoms of declining human growth hormone levels. The Power of Peptides Since peptides are able to improve a number of very precise concerns, they offer a wide range of benefits for overall health and appearance, including: Boosts energy, sharpens memory and cognitive focus Builds muscle and burns fat, increasing weight loss Enhances physical performance and improves appearance Repairs muscles and tendons Increases sex drive Enhances sleep quality What are Peptides? Peptides naturally enhance and stimulate your body’s own production of growth hormone. They are the smarter, safer, and more effective alternatives to human growth hormone replacement. Human growth hormone is naturally produced in the pituitary gland and plays a vital role in the growth of every cell in the human body, cell regeneration, maintaining healthy tissue throughout the body, and keeping your body functioning at peak performance. Growth hormone is released in bursts every three to five hours by the pituitary gland. The hypothalamus in the brain regulates the secretion of hormones from the pituitary gland. In order for the pituitary gland to release more growth hormone, the hypothalamus must release growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). The GHRH in turn signals the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. Growth Hormone Peptides do not replace your body’s own growth hormone production, creating a dependence on the therapy. Human Growth Hormone Deficiency As we age, the pituitary gland simply does not produce as much human growth hormone, and our levels naturally decline. As our human growth hormone levels decrease, we start to notice negative effects like weight gain, muscle loss, decreased energy levels, reduced strength and stamina, low libido or sexual dysfunction, poor sleep and aging skin. In women, human growth hormone levels start to decline in the early 20s. In men, it is usually around age 35. In middle age, human growth hormone levels are usually less than half of what they were in a person’s early 20s. How long does it take anti-aging peptide therapy to work? Peptide therapy has a “loading” period of 3-6 months before full effects are noticed. Benefits start within the first few weeks and they increase synergistically with continued therapy. Initially, injections are administered more frequently. Once levels become optimal and the benefits are achieved, injection frequencies can be decreased and transitioning to a maintenance protocol is possible. Peptide BPC 157 Short for “body protection compound,” this power-packed peptide is a true healing hero for the way it significantly speeds up the healing process for all kinds of tissues, from muscles and tendons to your gut and your brain. It can help in the following ways: Accelerates muscle and tendon healing Aids in reducing arthritis pain Decreases inflammation Increases collagen production Repairs lean tissue throughout the body Improves intestinal health Enhances GABA neurotransmission Counteracts the effects of Parkinson’s disease Peptide CJC-1295 As one of a new and improved generation of peptides, this potent combination is more effective for most people and offers more targeted action to deliver these worthwhile benefits: Fights the signs of aging Builds collagen and reduces wrinkles Increases fat loss and weight loss Accelerates healing and recovery Improves sleep and mood Enhances cognitive function Increases lean muscle mass Improves immune system Ready to learn more about Peptide Therapy? • Top 5 Reasons: Why It's So Hard To Maintain Healthy Weight

Have you wondered why maintaining healthy weight has become so hard in this modern-day society? There are more than a few reasons. Food choices We are not making good food choices. Looking for fast and easy, we are consuming tons of processed foods. When you walk into a grocery store, always shop around the outer edges of the store. Avoid the aisles, which are filled with 1000 options of processed foods. Yes, anything that comes in a box or can, is usually processed. Instead, shop for foods in their natural forms, like fresh produce- vegetables, fruits, nuts & seeds. Anything that does not look the same in its natural form, should generally be avoided. Example, fresh strawberries look the same as when they are picked from the strawberry plant but when strawberries are added to a box of cereal, they are highly processed. Social choices People are making choices to climb the social ladder to satisfy material gains. Amid showing off what we own and how we dress, we are compromising our health and sanity. All this stress causes cortisol (stress hormone) to peak and its production be disregulated, causing weight gain around the abdomen. Instead, let us be who we are and do what we have come to this World to do. Be genuine. Fulfill our own purpose, rather than follow the rat race of competition. Find inner peace and satisfaction. Lack of movement We work long hours and sit in front of computers all day. We slouch on the sofa with all kinds of electronic gadgets- like ipads and phone. We drive around in fancy cars rather than take a walk or bike to a nearby grocery store. By just a click of the button, we have the item delivered to our front door. The technology has made things very convenient for us but because of that, we lack movement and pack on those pounds instead. Sleep problems Stress from long work-hours and fulfilling other expectations, we are compromising our sleep to get 100 other unimportant things done. That affects the production of hormones, leptin and ghrelin, which make us hungry at night and therefore we consume those extra & unnecessary calories before bedtime. Physiological reasons There can be hormone imbalances like Thyroid, Adrenal & Sex hormone imbalances which are a cause of your weight gain. People with blood sugar imbalances, like those prone to diabetes are also prone to gain weight. In these cases, we do need to address the root cause of their problem to make a positive impact on their weight. Otherwise, these people get very frustrated and depressed since they are trying every exercise and diet program with zero results. Once we figure out the problem and find solutions for the same, let's decide which diet is best for us. Is that possible to do? There are so many out there, Keto, Paleo, Atkins, South Beach, Vegan & the list is unending. How do I know what will work for me? Well, I have an answer. Consider a genetic based – Weight Management Panel It checks for genetic markers that are related to your weight. The report gives you accurate information about your protein, carbohydrate and fat intake. It also specifies the type and intensity of exercise that is ideal for you. Honestly, my results were spot on. I was happy to know that I need to keep fat intake less and can eat moderate carbohydrates (of course healthy carbs). No wonder, I was gaining weight when I tried keto diet since that is high in fat. Okay, what about my Natural Weight Loss Program? Where does that fit in? So, I tell anyone that has tried all types of diet and exercise programs and is frustrated due to lack of results, please come and see me for a consult of my Natural Weight Loss Program. I will like to find the cause of your weight problem and if applicable, start you on my program which will be a jump start in the right direction. The right direction to begin losing weight and aiming for your goal weight. We will do a detailed body composition analysis to find out your BMI, Body Fat percent, Fat Mass, Hydration level etc and get you started on your Weight Loss journey. The good news is that the program is limited to 3 or 6 weeks. In 3 weeks, women lose about 10 lbs and men, 15 lbs. In 6 weeks, women lose about 20 lbs and men, 30+. Of course, this all depends on many factors, but I am sharing average results. Find a time when you are ready to commit, I mean to be able to mentally focus on this program. Don’t come when you are going to leave on a vacation after 2 weeks. The maintenance plan for 3 weeks which follow this diet is a crucial time where your body adjusts to the new weight. The great part about this diet is that you will eat foods in their most natural states. You will not be sold any meal replacement bars or jars. Your options are typically, lean proteins, vegetables and fruits for the most part. You will be asked to eat 6 times a day to keep the metabolism up, log your weight every morning and drink a gallon of water. 😊 So, if you are ready to begin your weight loss journey and get to that ideal weight that you have been striving for years, please call Tutera Medical 480-874-1515 We Now Offer Telemedicine Appointments! • Think you might be suffering from menopause?

68 percent of the 44 million people currently at risk for osteoporosis are women The Importance of Estrogen Women commonly have a low risk for cardiovascular disease until Menopause, around age 50, when their estrogen levels plummet and the ratio of estradiol to estrone goes haywire. Menopause and estrogen imbalance are also associated with osteoporosis, breast cancer, and other serious health issues. Research indicates that, besides heart and artery protection, estrogen protects against cognitive decline during aging and perhaps even against Alzheimer’s disease. The most common reason as to why women are at higher risk for developing Alzheimer’s is reduced estrogen production after Menopause. It’s likewise important to note that, on the reverse side, epidemiological research has linked hormone replacement with a decline in the risk of developing this serious disease. WHAT IS MENOPAUSE Menopause is the end of the female reproductive cycle and is commonly diagnosed when a woman has not had her period for 12 months. The average age for the onset of Menopause is 51 but can also happen in as early as your late 30’s. The precise method of determining if a woman is in Menopause is to measure the amount of follicle stimulating hormone levels in the blood. Leading up to Menopause, the ovaries produce fewer hormones, which cause a variety of changes in a woman’s body. Surgical removal of the ovaries and other medical conditions and treatments can also induce Menopause. The fluctuations in the hormones estrogen, testosterone and progesterone can cause your periods to become irregular and sometimes heavy. Other symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, brain fog, and headaches can soon follow. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF MENOPAUSE? Brain Fog      Low Sexual Desire      Dry Skin      Headaches Vaginal Dryness     Hair Loss      Increased Body Fat Anxiety      Fatigue & Lower Energy Levels      Depression Why Use Bio-Identical Hormones? Remaining healthy into old age depends on many things including lifestyle and genetics. It also makes perfect sense to replenish what the body needs. That’s why we supplement vitamins and minerals. It’s also why we use HRT to restore internal balance. Many physicians focus on simply relieving symptoms with pharmaceutical pills, patches, injections or creams. However, in order to return the body to balance, it needs recognizable hormone substances and a precision delivery method to transport them through the bloodstream around the clock. By far the safest, most effective and convenient method, properly administered bioidentical hormone replacement (BHRT) using pellet implants can restore the beneficial hormone levels your body needs. Pellet implants consist of low dose estradiol and testosterone that release slowly for 3 to 6 months, 24/7. It is the only BHRT method that can release more hormone when the body needs it. After decades of treating women (and men) with this method, we’ve witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact pellet implant therapy has had on thousands of patients—whether it helped reverse serious osteoporosis, aided a Parkinson’s patient to make strides in mobility, or simply helped revive a marriage. Many say they’ve been given back what they thought they’d lost forever —their quality of life. Want to find a SottoPelle Provider? Click here. • Why Your Bones Want You to Have Healthy Hormones

by SottoPelle® Therapy You know that having balanced hormones can help alleviate symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, loss of libido and mood swings. But healthy hormone levels can do more than improve the way you feel– they can save your bones (and maybe even your life). According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation: ● An estimated 10 million Americans have osteoporosis, 80% of them women ● Almost half of women over age 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis ● A woman’s risk of hip fracture is equal to her combined risk of uterine, ovarian and breast cancer. Studies show that the risk of death goes up sharply in the event of a hip or back fracture. What does this have to do with hormones? The hormone estrogen protects women’s bones, and when menopause hits and estrogen levels plummet, women are at greater risk for bone loss, osteoporosis and fractures. Hormone replacement therapy keeps estrogen levels where they should be, protecting your bones and, as a result, your health and vitality. What if I am already taking medications to prevent bone loss? While for older women with a diagnosis of osteoporosis, bone building drugs can and do reduce the incidence of fractures, many younger post-menopausal women with osteopenia (bone loss that is not as severe as osteoporosis) are being prescribed these drugs on a “preventive” basis. These drugs can have serious side effects, and research shows that they don’t provide much protection from fractures for women in these situations. (ref.3) Maintaining healthy hormone levels can help women protect their bones without the side effects associated with bone building medications. What about men? Just like with women, healthy hormone levels can be an important part of protecting bone health in men. A 2017 study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that one year of testosterone therapy significantly increased bone density and bone strength in men aged 65 and older. This is part of what researchers have dubbed “the T Trials,” an effort by the National Institutes of Health to study the effects of testosterone treatment in 790 men ages 65 and older. The ongoing trials will next seek to confirm if testosterone therapy and its bone-building ability also protects men from suffering fractures.(ref.4) In the meantime, it’s exciting that the research is catching up to what we already know– that healthy hormone levels are key to aging well, staying strong, remaining vital, and holding onto your health, all the way down to your bones! • Can hormones be restored to youthful levels?

In the prime of your life, endocrine hormones work in perfect harmony with one another and all the body’s systems to keep you healthy, vibrant and performing at your peak. When hormones become imbalanced, as they do in perimenopause and andropause, your body may begin to “fall apart,” as the saying goes. Adult onset diabetes, coronary artery disease, osteoporosis and a host of other aging-related diseases can flourish in a body that is out of balance. Want to find a SottoPelle Provider? Click here.
