Let's explore how you can make the most out of your lunch break with this easy procedure! Visible results QUICKLY! After your initial consultation, most appointments only require 15 minutes of your time. While the full results of the treatment take around a week, you will begin to see an immediate improvement in fine lines & wrinkles in as little as a day. during your session, your injector will use a tiny micro-needle. A very small amount of Botox® is injected, very precisely, into several locations on the face. Because the needle is so fine and only a small amount of liquid is utilized, the pain associated with the injections is minimal. Most patients compare the sensation to a bug bite. Effects of botox are not permanent & typically last 3-4 months! These sessions can be preventative or targeted at specific areas where you want to reverse the aging process. You will need to get multiple treatments to maintain your desired look! What to expect after botox Luckily this treatment has little to no downtime so that you can resume your day-to-day activities after your treatment. The side effects of botox are minimal. You can expect to see slight swelling & redness in the injection spot, which usually resolves within a few days after your treatment is complete. Here are a few tips to get the most out of your treatment: Stay out of the sun for a few days to allow healing time Don't massage or apply pressure to the area 6-8 hours after your session Sit upright for at least 6 hours after your treatment Avoid rigorous exercise after your procedure Skip the facials or sauna for 24 hours Decrease the risk of bruising by NOT consuming: Advil, Vitamin E, Ginger, Ginko, Bilboa & Ginseng Wait 12 hours before applying makeup What areas can I treat? Here are some of the most popular places for a botox treatment: Lip Lines (Smokers Lines) Wrinkles on the bridge of the nose (Bunny Nose) Crease under the nose, giving a slight nose tip lift Gummy smile Chin wrinkles (Orange Peel Effect) Fine lines and wrinkles under and around the eyes Brow Lift Softening look of jaw line Neck Bands (Platysmal Bands) Axillary Hyperhidrosis (Under Arm Sweating) How does botox work? • Hormones & Stubborn Belly Fat

Hormones are responsible for so many key things in your body, but did you know they are also linked to stubborn belly fat? If you've been trying everything to slim down for summer and you're still not seeing the results that you have hoped for your hormones may be to blame! Beyond diet & exercise This time of year is one of the most sought-after for diet & exercise so you can have results for bikini season. Even the most dedicated individuals can eat 100% clean, exercise daily and still not see the results they should be. Our bodies produce all types of hormones to keep us healthy. However, if certain hormones are higher or lower it can cause you a lot of trouble when you're trying to lose weight. Some of the most important hormones when it comes to weight loss are: Estrogen This hormone assists your body in managing your weight. During menopause, it's normal to see a dip in estradiol, a hormone that helps your body maintain a healthy weight and regulate your metabolism. When estrogen levels are low it can actually change where your body stores fat. Normally when your body stores fat it's in the thighs & the hips. But once estrogen starts to decline the fat storage shifts to visceral fat in your belly. Visceral fat is deeper and much harder to remove, it also increases your risk for disease. Leptin This hormone helps regulate your appetite by signaling your brain when it feels hungry. It also functions to burn calories and determine how much fat you store. Leptin resistance can occur which can lead your brain to constantly think you're hungry, leading to overeating and weight gain. This is a big reason why some diets don't help you lose weight long-term. When you start to lose weight leptin levels decrease which causes your body to think you're hungry so you consume more calories. How HRT can help Most people think to lose those inches they just need to eat better and spend more time in the gym. However, getting to the root cause of the problem in the first place should be addressed. If your stubborn belly fat is being caused by a hormone imbalance bio-identical hormone optimization can help. Bioidentical Pellet Therapy is a hormone replacement method in which replaces the natural hormones men and women lose over time. The procedure uses pellets that contain either estradiol or testosterone, they are pressed, or fused into tiny solid cylinders. Once administered they deliver consistent and healthy levels of hormones for 3-5 months in women and 4-6 months in men. This treatment can help your body redistribute this fat to different areas on your body, rather than your abdominal area. Talking to your doctor about having your hormone levels checked can help determine if a hormone imbalance could be the cause of the fatigue you're experiencing. Take the first step by taking our hormone self-assesment quiz. for yourself or your partner. • What's The Key to Feeling Better During Menopause?

The hormone estrogen plays a vital role in women's health throughout their lifespan- and is often part of the reason symptoms of aging begin to occur as estrogen levels naturally decline. Let's take a look at why estrogen is so important & warning signs to watch for when levels start to decline. Why estrogen is so important Estrogen in females helps to control the reproductive system & other body systems throughout our life. The ovaries, adrenal glands & fat tissues produce estrogen. Both females and males produce this hormone, but females create more of it. Estrogen plays a huge part in your menstrual cycle, getting pregnant, bone development & hair growth. It also helps regulate your moods & impacts your brain development! Consistent low estrogen levels may mean that you’re going through a natural change, like menopause. What causes low estrogen levels? While the most common reason for low estrogen is the natural aging process, other factors can contribute. Here are some of the most common: Autoimmune disease These diseases attack your ovaries which hinder the production of estrogen. Genetic conditions Suffering from conditions such as Turner Syndrome & Fragile X have been linked to low estrogen levels. Eating disorders Both anorexia & bulimia deprive the body of the nutrients it needs to function properly. This can lead to imbalanced hormones & low estrogen levels. Treatments that impact the ovaries Damage or removal of the ovaries, such as a complete hysterectomy, can greatly affect how much estrogen your body produces. Symptoms of low estrogen The symptoms associated with low estrogen in your reproductive years overlap with common symptoms associated with menopause and postmenopause. Be sure to watch for these signs which point to low estrogen levels in the body: Weight gain Estrogen helps regulate body fat & how it's stored. When estrogen levels drop, you may see an increase in fat storage. Painful sex When levels are low, you will likely experience vaginal dryness, leading to pain during intercourse. Many women also report a decrease in their sex drive when levels are off. Hot flashes Estrogen plays a vital role in the part of your brain that controls your body temperature. When levels are low, your body temperature rises, resulting in night sweats & hot flashes. Mental health problems Estrogen helps to regulate your mood. If you're experiencing sudden mood swings, anxiety or depression, estrogen levels could be to blame. These symptoms are normally worsened if you have a history of mental health issues. Fatigue Estrogen improves the quality of sleep, reduces the time to fall asleep & increases the amount of REM sleep. If your levels are off it can greatly impact the quality & amount of zzzz's your body can get. Increasing estrogen naturally A popular and highly-researched treatment for balancing hormones bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Chemically identical to the natural hormones we produce, pellets deliver customized dosages based on the patient's individual needs. In addition to hormone optimization, here are some natural ways to support hormone balance: Add to Your Diet: Soy Beans, Flax Seeds & Sesame Seeds Take Quality Supplements that include: B Vitamins, Vitamin D, Boron & DHEA, Black Cohosh, Chasteberry, Evening Primrose Oil, Red Clover & Dong Quai The Next Step? • Can You Treat a Thyroid Disorder Naturally?

Article originally posted by miskawaanhealth.com. The thyroid is responsible for producing several hormones essential for a healthy body, including regulating cholesterol and maintaining weight. When the thyroid doesn’t function properly it can mean that we produce too little or too much of a certain hormone. Understanding Thyroid Disease and Thyroid Dysfunctions In the US alone: 20 million people have some form of a thyroid condition. It’s estimated that 60% of these affected individuals are not even aware they a thyroid-related condition. Women are far more likely to suffer from thyroid disease. Most conditions are life-long, though they can be managed effectively once diagnosed. What Is the Thyroid? The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland that wraps around the trachea (windpipe). It works in conjunction with the pituitary gland to control metabolism, helping the body to draw energy from food and use it efficiently. Two specific hormones are called T4 and T3 and their role is to ‘tell’ cells how much energy they should use. When working properly, the thyroid ensures that your body functions optimally. What Is Thyroid Disease? Thyroid disease is a term for a range of different conditions that affect this gland. For example, when it is not working properly, the thyroid may produce too much of a certain type of hormone. This makes the cells use too much energy and is called hyperthyroidism. If the thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough hormones, the cells don’t burn as much energy and individuals can gain weight and feel fatigued all the time. This is called hypothyroidism. Both conditions can be caused by different diseases and some of the most common are Grave’s disease, goiter and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Symptoms of Thyroid Disease The symptoms vary depending on what type of condition a patient has: Hyperthyroidism typically makes the individual feel more anxious and restless. They may have a racing heart and feel irritable. Other symptoms include muscle weakness and loss of weight. Hypothyroidism has almost the opposite effect. The affected individual may feel fatigued, have trouble concentrating and may be prone to weight gain. Depression is not uncommon and the heart rate is typically slowed down. Causes of Thyroid Disease The vast majority of thyroid diseases involve the gland either being too active or not active enough. The condition can also occur temporarily in pregnant women who have just given birth. In some cases, the disease is caused by a deficiency or excess production of iodine in the body. As the thyroid works closely with the pituitary gland, any disease or damage to this can have a knock-on effect. Other Thyroid Disorders Several specific conditions lead to dysfunction in the thyroid. These include: Hashimoto’s thyroiditis: The most common type of hypothyroidism caused by an autoimmune reaction; affecting between 7% to 8% percent of the population. Grave’s disease: A hereditary autoimmune disease that attacks the thyroid, can cause hyperthyroidism. Goiter: A condition causing enlargement of the thyroid through iodine deficiency. Conventional Medical Approaches to Thyroid Disease The conventional medical approach to thyroid disease is to treat the associated symptoms. That can mean giving the patient anti-thyroid drugs and radioactive iodine, as well as performing surgery on the patient, to reduce the production of hormones. Thyroid hormone replacement therapy is generally used if the gland is producing insufficient hormone levels. The Functional Medicine Approach The functional medicine approach is to look at the root causes of any thyroid dysfunction and remedy that rather than simply treating the symptoms. It takes a holistic view of the individual and develops a tailored healthcare solution that is more likely to produce longer-term results and improve the overall health of the patient. Each individual is biochemically unique and it’s important to understand their physiology beyond their hormonal levels and symptoms. Assessing someone fully involves looking not just at their biological make-up but also their environment, their nutritional history and even their social situations. For example, switching to nutrient-dense foods and maintaining a healthy diet can improve the functioning of the thyroid in many ways. Foods that contain healthy fats and certain vitamins are known to support the thyroid. Combined with removing highly processed foods that cause inflammation, this approach can make a big difference. For others, there may be an issue with low iodine levels. Iodine can be found in healthy food choices such as seaweed, eggs and shellfish. Wellness approaches are also a big part of functional medicine. Chronic stress plays an important but negative role in personal health. It produces cortisol which can have a direct impact on the thyroid gland. Introducing therapies such as meditation can help to reduce stress levels and enhance the patient’s wellbeing. Being more active and exercising regularly as well as finding ways to achieve adequate sleep plays a role too. In the environment around us, we’re exposed to a range of toxins and these can also affect the healthy functioning of the thyroid. With any health condition, including thyroid dysfunction, the functional medicine approach focuses on the root cause of the issue rather than solely looking to alleviate the associated symptoms. The Right Specialist For You It is important to consult a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of hormone-related diseases and conditions so they can establish the correct diagnosis from the beginning and can help with the long-term management of your thyroid disorder. It's important to be in a partnership with your thyroid doctor so that your issues are being addressed appropriately. You should feel heard, cared for and be able to have honest conversations about your issues. Are you ready to start feeling better? • Powerful Peptides! CJC 1295/Ipamorelin

What is CJC 1295/Ipamorelin? CJC 1295/Ipamorelin is a combination of 2 peptides. It is a Growth Hormone releasing hormone that stimulates one side of the pituitary gland. It does this in order to produce growth hormone. Ipamorelin mimics the ghrelin and binds to the ghrelin receptor in the pituitary gland in the brain. Thus, it also acts on the pituitary gland in order to produce growth hormone. These two peptides combine to act together in order to increase HGH (human growth hormone) produced in the body. The CJC 1295/Ipamorelin combo is able to achieve this by acting in two different families of receptors. How Does it Work? Ipamorelin and CJC 1295 are often used together to stimulate muscle development. The combination works by increasing the blood level of hormones associated with growth. It can increase muscle mass and strength, decrease body fat, improve injury recovery time, and even improve sleep quality and cognitive function. Research completed with healthy men and women between the ages of 21 and 61, showed that CJC 1295 had the ability to increase serum growth hormone levels by 200-1000%. In these individuals, the elevated growth hormone production and release continued for up to 6 days because CJC 1295 has a half life of about 6-8 days. This longer half-life means the body continues to produce beyond the day of injection and is thought to be a great benefit has compared to other peptides that also have similar actions. For this reason and a few more, CJC 1295 has become very effective peptide for safely increasing growth hormone levels. What are Some of the Possible Benefits? One major benefit of CJC 1295 and Ipamorelin peptide therapy is you can quickly and easily build muscle mass and strength. Extended-release CJC 1295 can yield more significant results, even for people who simply want increased lean muscle mass rather than bulk muscle. The CJC 1295/Ipamorelin peptide blend brings about greater muscle development and energy levels. With use of CJC 1295/Ipamorelin peptides, your body continues to produce elevated growth hormone levels for up to 6 days. The benefits of CJC 1295/Ipamorelin include but are not limited to: Increased Bone Density As we get older, our bones get brittle, that is why injuries are more common. Strengthens the Cardiovascular System Increase in Muscle Mass More muscle mass = higher metabolism = less body fat. The Ability to Burn Fat The increase in muscle mass means the body’s resting metabolic rate is boosted leading to more calories burned throughout the day. Increased Sex Drive Sex is a vital part of our health, our mood and our overall wellbeing. Not being able to function properly sexually can really take a toll on your mental well-being. Improved Recovery and Repair from Injuries Being on a proper bioidentical hormone replacement therapy program leads to an overall improved state of well-being. This adheres to recovery time (soreness) and acute musculoskeletal injuries. Strengthens Immune System It is a tremendous benefit when you are trying to attain optimal health and that is achieved by having a strong immune system. Improves Cognition and Memory Function It is an improved overall benefit to the body, this includes focus and feeling mental clarity and sharpness throughout the day. Improves Insulin Sensitivity CJC 1295 and Ipamorelin improves insulin sensitivity thus reducing the body’s triglycerides. High blood sugars are reduced which helps burning more body fat. Who is a good candidate for CJC 1295/Ipamorelin? CJC-1295 can help individuals over the age of 30 to have more energy, a faster metabolism, and stay in better shape as you age. It’s not a hormone itself, so it is a relatively safe and low-risk option when all things are considered. Ask us TODAY if Peptide therapy could help you look and feel better, FASTER! • What To Expect During a CoolSculpting session

Looking to tone up this summer? Whether you have recently lost weight and want to tighten loose skin or get rid of stubborn belly fat, CoolSculpting could be the answer you've been looking for. So what is CoolSculpting & what should you expect during a session? Let's explore! What is CoolSculpting While the idea of CoolSculpting came around in the early 2000s, it became an FDA-approved procedure in 2009! This process in scientific terms is referred to as "cryolipolysis" "cryo," meaning cold, and "lipolysis," meaning to break down fat. This procedure has swept the nation & is gaining in popularity because of the stellar results REAL people are getting. How does CoolSculpting get rid of fat? As the name implies, you are literally freezing fat cells in your body, causing them to break down & die. These fat cells become waste and are processed by the lymphatic system and permanently eliminated from the body. Yes, you heard that right, permanently! What results can you expect to see The elimination of dead fat cells is a gradual process, so don't expect to walk out an entire dress size smaller, but consistency by targeting a specific area on the body is key with these sessions. Each session will further destroy the fat cells, so multiple sessions are vital! As far as results go...it shouldn't be measured by weight being lost but rather inches being taken off. This is great, because who really cares about the number on the scale if you look fabulous in that bikini?! While results will vary from person to person, on average, twenty to twenty-five percent of fat reduction is expected after two sessions. How long does it last Just because you kill off a good chunk of fat cells in the belly, hips, or thighs doesn't mean new ones can't grow back, so think twice before hitting the drive-through on the way home from a session! Like any fat-eliminating process, it takes maintaining a healthy lifestyle to accelerate results and keep the results from all of your hard work. Remember, there is NO magic pill, procedure, or solution that doesn't require upkeep for desired results. What will my session be like During your initial consultation, you will speak with a board-certified medical provider who will create a personalized treatment plan based on the results you're looking to achieve. During your consultation, they will discuss what areas you'd like to treat, your body contouring goals, & answer your questions about the treatment. During the session, paddles extended from the machine are placed on specific target areas. They will suction a portion of your flesh to begin the controlled cooling process. Each CoolSculpting session takes between 35-45 minutes, and it's recommended to do 1-2 sessions per target area. During treatment, you will feel a series of involuntary (deep) muscle contractions over the targeted area that will last for a few seconds, followed by a period of rest. Lucky for you, there is practically no downtime after this procedure, so it would make a great "lunch break" errand! Ready to schedule your CoolSculpting session? • Boost Your Immune System Naturally

Now more than ever it's important to care about how your immune system works and what you can do to boost immunity from colds and viruses. With "sick season" right around the corner you can protect yourself and your family from getting sick and having to miss work and school. So How Does Our Immune System Work? Your immune system has a BIG job, and that's keeping you healthy! Made from organs, cells & proteins your immune system is working overtime right now to protect your body from harmful substances, germs, and cell changes that could make you ill. The immune system is activated by bacteria, fungi, and viruses that it doesn't recognize should be there. When you come in contact with these things antigens attach to special receptors on the immune cells. If the body is coming into contact with a virus for the first time it stores information about the virus and how to fight it. If you come into a virus or germ that it's seen before your immune system starts to fight is straight away. Your body develops antibodies to protect you from those specific germs. The main parts of the immune system are: White blood cells Lymph nodes Spleen Tonsils and adenoids Thymus Bone marrow Stomach and bowel How To Boost Your Immune System Naturally For your immune system to function naturally it requires all entities to be balanced and healthy. You can try deep breathing, meditation or hey even a little retail therapy never hurts anyone. • Mid-Life Crisis Or Male Menopause?

When most people imagine a man going through a "mid-life crisis" it's normally accompanied with sports cars or other odd behavioral changes. Essentially ditching their normal responsibilities for fun! What most people fail to take into account is the high likelihood of hormone imbalance in the mid to late 40's that can cause this erratic behavior. The more you know, the better you can prepare When we talk about the menopausal state it's normally associated with women. We live in a society that talks a lot more about female hormones than males. So it's no wonder we chalk up erratic behavior to a mid-life crisis- rather than seeing what is really going on. It's important to understand the changes our partners are going through and provide support, compassion & understanding to the situation rather than blame & accuse. As we age, both men and women's hormone production gradually declines. Although an occasional irregularity is not harmful, a major imbalance can have severe consequences on your health. What Are the Types of Hormonal Imbalance in Men? While testosterone is considered the "primary" male hormone, other hormones including cortisol, insulin & thyroid play a factor in overall wellness. Imbalance of any one of these hormones can result in unwanted symptoms of aging. Andropause: The Male Version of Menopause Andropause begins when the production of testosterone levels decrease with age. Generally after the age of 40 testosterone levels start to decline and symptoms of andropause start to show up. It's important to note that this is NOT the same thing as female menopause. The decrease in testosterone and the development of symptoms is more gradual than what occurs in women. Testosterone levels can also decline due to medications or lifestyle choices. Although symptoms may vary from person to person, common symptoms of men going through andropause include: Low sex drive Fatigue Reduced muscle mass Irritability and mood swings Erectile dysfunction Depression Adrenal fatigue Often associated with stress, this can be a huge factor for our hormone levels. Adrenal fatigue can occur in people who are under long-term mental, emotional, or physical stress. The adrenal glands are in charge of our fight or flight response and regulate our reaction to stress. The main adrenal hormone used to manage stress is cortisol. Adrenal glands release cortisol during high-stress times, low blood sugar, excitement & during exercise. When stress becomes extreme or extends over long periods of time the adrenal glands cannot function properly causing these symptoms: Mid-day fatigue or low energy Difficulty falling asleep Emerging allergies Sensitivity to chemicals Anxiety Increased susceptibility to infections Reduced stress tolerance Hypothyroidism This is a condition in which there isn't enough thyroid hormone in your bloodstream which causes your metabolism to slow down. Simply put, metabolism can affect your body’s temperature, your heartbeat, and how well you burn calories. This can result a variety of symptoms including: Constipation Depression Dry hair and hair loss Dry skin Elevated cholesterol Fatigue Greater sensitivity to cold Hoarse voice Joint pain, stiffness, and swelling Problems with memory Muscle aches and stiffness Muscle weakness Hyperthyroidism An overactive thyroid gland can increase your metabolism and produce high levels of thyroid hormone. High amounts of T4, T3, or both can cause an excessively high metabolic rate. This is called a hypermetabolic state. Here a few symptoms to look out for: Increased appetite Nervousness Restlessness Inability to concentrate Weakness Irregular heartbeat Difficulty sleeping Fine, brittle hair Itching Hair loss Nausea and vomiting Breast development in men Hormonal imbalances are common in today’s day and age because of our fast-paced lifestyle or poor diet. If you feel like you or your partner may be struggling with any of these symptoms there is hope! • Success Story: Balanced Hormones for Weight Loss

People are talking about the amazing results they are enjoying after receiving therapy from the top doctors in the nation. What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy? Bioidentical Hormones are different from traditional hormones in that they are derived from plant-based estrogens that match what our body naturally produces. They are considered the safer and more natural alternative to hormone therapy and can even be effective in the treatment of thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, and fibromyalgia. Benefits of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy BHRT is commonly used to help women who are in menopause or perimenopause, and are experiencing symptoms low levels of testosterone: Poor sleep quality Mood swings Hot flashes Memory loss Weight gain Low-libido If you think BHRT is just for women...think again! Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy has been shown to optimize low-testosterone levels in men as well. After the age of 30, men start to see a decline in testosterone levels as a result of aging. Low-testosterone levels in men can cause: Decreased muscle mass and strength Low-libido Difficulty with fat distribution Decreased bone density Reduced sperm production Erectile dysfunction “I can sleep through the night, I have enough energy, I can function properly every day, I remember things...Now that we have everything under control, I feel much better on a daily basis”- Jen C. • A New Outlook on Aging with Proactive Wellness

#SOTHRIVE with Tiffany Hendra featuring AJ Piovisan of Age Rejuvenation When it comes to wellness, there are some things we can control and other aspects that we simply cannot control. Our age, for instance. We can't stop ourselves from getting older, but as we get older - kind of like a fine wine, we can get better (as long as our cork doesn't dry out!) We should shift our perspective of aging to an opportunity. Help the body heal itself and overcome the aging obstacles we may have with PROACTIVE wellness. How To Be Proactive with Wellness. The first step is to find a Naturopathic Provider who is a hormone specialist. These providers concentrate on whole patient wellness through health promotion and disease prevention, while addressing the underlying cause of the patient’s condition. They provide individualized, evidence-informed therapies that balance the least harmful and most effective approaches in order to help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health. Their goal is to treat the individual, to stimulate and support the body’s inherent ability to heal, to identify the root cause, address it as naturally and gently as possible, to teach patients how to create wellness, and to prevent illness whenever possible. Why it's Important to Find a Naturopathic Provider and Hormone Specialist The first step in working to identify the root cause of symptoms is seeing what's really going on in the body. Providers begin with an extensive lab panel and ask you about symptoms you are experiencing, family history and your overall goals for wellness. Offering holistic perspectives and treatment options, they are able to address a broad range of chronic health issues such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease, allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, respiratory conditions, fertility issues, menopause and chronic fatigue syndrome. Work with a Hormone Specialist Addressing the symptoms of aging begins with bringing balance and optimization to the hormones. As we age, our hormone levels naturally decline. As a result, the typical symptoms of aging begin to happen. Hormones affect our growth and development, mood, metabolism, reproduction, sexual function and drive, heart rate, sleep cycle, and body temperature. Hormones are critical for our wellbeing and when an imbalance happens, it can wreak havoc on our bodies. Once your doctor can diagnose you with the specific hormone imbalance you have, you can explore treatments. For women who suffer from hormone imbalances, the most common symptoms they experience are: Breast tenderness Heavy or irregular periods Hot flashes Indigestion Osteoporosis Sleep disturbances Uterine bleeding not related to menstruation Weight gain "A common misconception about hormone imbalance is that it only affects women. This is simply not true. A lot of men suffer from hormone imbalances that negatively impact their well-being." - Brett Markowitz, CEO of Age Rejuvenation For men who suffer from hormone imbalances, the most common symptoms they experience are: Breast tenderness Erectile dysfunction Low sperm count Depression Increased anxiety Osteoporosis Increased fatigue Reduced muscle mass Reduced sex drive Ready to Get on the Path to Proactive Wellness? • The Truth About Cellulite

If you've been scrolling through social media lately you've probably seen that perfect beach bikini picture with a woman who has no stretch marks or cellulite. If you're thinking to yourself "HOW do they keep the cellulite away?!" ...keep reading for answers. Cellulite affects 80% of women, so it's interesting we don't talk about why it happens. We are conditioned to see that beautiful bikini picture and compare our bodies to what we see through a social media lens. Cellulite is seen as a sign of being overweight & out of shape which isn't entirely true! What Is Cellulite? Cellulite is the name for the fat that pushes against the connective tissue beneath your skin. While cellulite can affect both men and women, it's more common in women. Women's skin collagen is arranged in parallel rows, like pillars, this leads to compartmentalization of fat, which makes cellulite visible. While being overweight tends to make cellulite more noticeable, women of all shapes and sizes can have it. The main symptom is the appearance of lumpy, dimpled flesh on the thighs, hips, buttocks, and belly. What Causes Cellulite? While there is no exact cause, there are various factors that can contribute to how noticeable your cellulite is. The most common reasons why cellulite is more noticeable on some women more than others? Here are a few factors: Genetics One of the most common reasons you may have cellulite is having family members who also have it. Studies have identified genes that appear to play roles in your susceptibility to cellulite. Hormones Hormones such as estrogen, noradrenaline, insulin, prolactin and thyroid hormones play a part in the development of cellulite. Estrogen plays a huge role in fat regulation. This hormone causes fat to build up in the breasts, thighs, and buttocks. When estrogen declines in menopause, it becomes easier for women to gain weight, which then exacerbates cellulite. Poor Diet A diet that is heavy in fat, sugar, carbs, and salt contributes greatly to the severity of cellulite. Try and opt for whole foods like fruits and vegetables to help decrease excess fat production. Skin Structure Healthy skin with good amounts of collagen holds fatty areas tighter so cellulite doesn't show as much. Age It's inevitable as we age our skin becomes less elastic. The decline in elasticity causes blood vessels to become more fragile and the skin begins to sag, making cellulite that much more pronounced. How Can I Get Rid Of My Cellulite? COOLSCULPTING CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved, nonsurgical fat-freezing procedure that combats stubborn trouble spots, such as the abs, thighs, and chin resulting in up to 20% – 25% fat reduction within three months. QWO™ CELLULITE TREATMENT QWO™ is the first and only FDA-approved injectable cellulite treatment for moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. • How to Spot a Thyroid Disorder

The thyroid makes hormones that travel through your bloodstream and regulate how your body breaks down food and uses it for energy. It is part of the endocrine system, which includes the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, thymus, pineal gland, testes, ovaries, adrenal glands, parathyroid and pancreas. ABOUT YOUR THYROID The thyroid secretes hormones that help regulate: brain development and function eyes heart skin and hair weight/metabolism intestine function The thyroid is governed by the pituitary (called the “master gland”), a pea-sized organ located at the base of the brain. HOW IT WORKS The Pituitary gland checks amount of thyroid hormone in blood and tells the thyroid to make more or less hormones so there's always a balanced amount. The thyroid uses iodine (mainly from seafood and dairy products) to make the thyroid hormone; iodine is absorbed through intestine into bloodstream, then makes its way to thyroid. Thyroid disorders occur when something goes wrong with the process, and too much or too little thyroid hormone is produced. These disorders frequently run in families, and are more common in women. HOW TO SPOT SYMPTOMS OF THYROID DISORDERS Hyperthyroidism = Overactive thyroid The symptoms associated with an overactive thyroid are commonly: ✓ Increased bowel movements ✓ Increased sweating ✓ Weight loss ✓ Irritability ✓ Fatigue ✓ Vision problems ✓ Irregular menstruation (light) ✓ Anxiety/ nervousness Hypothyroidism = Underactive thyroid The symptoms associated with an underactive thyroid are commonly: ✓ Constipation ✓ Intolerance to cold ✓ Weight gain ✓ Dry skin, dry hair ✓ Irregular menstruation (heavy) ✓ Fatigue What Can you Do to Support Your Thyroid Balance? ✓ Eat a balanced diet ✓ Get enough sleep and exercise ✓ Get your hormone levels checked by a hormone specialist How are Thyroid Disorders Typically Treated? Following a simple blood test, your provider will identify whether your thyroid is producing healthy levels, or if it is producing to much or too little. Many providers prescribe oral thyroid medicine that is taken daily. Your provider may also recommend additional therapies to support your wellness including bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. If you're experiencing symptoms of thyroid disorders, it's important that you visit a medical provider that is a hormone specialist. • Does the cure for hair loss lie within our blood?

Hair loss, at any age, can be embarrassing and unattractive. It can make a person look prematurely aged and can detract from other features of the face, giving unwanted attention to balding. Fortunately, natural treatments are growing in popularity to help regrow hair, including Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy, also called PRP. What is Platelet-Rich Plasma? Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is derived from the bloodstream and has been used for years to treat musculoskeletal conditions, and more recently, skin conditions. Colloquially termed “vampire” treatments, PRP injected into the skin or used after microneedling (a technique that uses small needles to create microscopic skin wounds) may help to improve skin texture and appearance. Recently, PRP has garnered attention as a promising solution for one of the most challenging problems in dermatology: hair loss. Platelets and hair growth: What’s the connection? Platelets are one of four primary components of blood (the other three are red blood cells, white blood cells, and plasma). Platelets promote cell growth and regeneration. As the term “platelet-rich plasma” suggests, platelets are generally about five times more concentrated in PRP than in regular blood. This concentration of platelets is useful, because platelets secrete growth factors that are thought to assist in wound healing and tissue regrowth. When it comes to hair loss, the theory is that platelets, injected deep into the scalp to reach the bottom of the hair follicle, may stimulate a specialized population of cells named dermal papilla cells, which play a critical role in hair growth. Although PRP is a relatively new approach, there is some scientific evidence to suggest that it can promote hair growth. The Procedure The following steps are an example of a common approach to PRP injections for hair loss: A medical professional draws blood from a vein in the arm. They place the blood sample in a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins the blood, separating its components. A medical professional extracts the platelets using a syringe. A doctor injects the platelets into targeted areas of the scalp. The entire process may take about 1 hour, and several sessions may be necessary. After receiving PRP treatment, a person can usually return to their regular activities without any limitations. How long does it last? PRP is not a cure for conditions that cause hair loss. For this reason, a person would need to receive multiple PRP treatments over time to maintain hair growth results. The same is true of medications that doctors commonly use to treat androgenetic alopecia, such as topical minoxidil (Regaine) and oral finasteride (Propecia). The doctor’s recommendations for how often a person should have PRP will vary depending on a person’s condition and the results of their initial treatment. The doctor may suggest having maintenance injections every 3–6 months once hair loss is under control. Other Uses of PRP for Healing and Restoration According to Hopkinsmedicine.org, PRP injections are used for a range of conditions,* from musculoskeletal pain and injuries to cosmetic procedures. Tendon, Ligament, Muscle and Joint Injuries PRP injections may be able to treat a range of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. For example, chronic tendon injuries such as tennis elbow or jumper’s knee can often take a long time to heal, so adding PRP shots to a treatment regimen can help to stimulate the healing process, decrease pain and enable a return to activities sooner. Post-surgical Healing Clinicians first used PRP to accelerate healing after jaw or plastic surgeries. Now, post-surgical PRP injections have expanded to help heal muscles, tendons and ligaments, as procedures on these tissues have notoriously long recovery times. Osteoarthritis Early studies indicate that PRP injections may help treat osteoarthritis pain and stiffness by modulating the joint environment and reducing inflammation, but research is growing. • The Game Changer for Women Experiencing Menopause Symptoms

So you've finally decided to do something about your mood swings, hot flashes and low libido but finding the right hormone replacement therapy can be tricky. Patients experiencing the unwanted symptoms of menopause or perimenopause tried everything- from creams and pills to shots- only to find little to no relief. If you've been searching for a therapy that many women describe as "life-changing," it may be time to find a hormone specialist that offers Bioidentical Hormone Pellet Therapy. How do I know I need hormone optimization? From our first menstrual cycle, to our last pregnancy our hormones are constantly changing. Once we get past the surging hormones we experience in our youth vital hormones such as estrogen & progesterone production actually starts to slow down. This normally happens in our 50's but can happen earlier or later for some women. A hormone imbalance can cause a variety of symptoms. Here are a few signs you may be entering perimenopause: You're experiencing sudden weight gain after diet & exercise Unexplained, and sometimes sudden, weight loss. Extreme fatigue after you got a good nights rest You have muscle weakness aches, tenderness, and stiffness. Sudden pain, stiffness, or swelling in your joints. Increased or decreased heart rate. Low libido How may hormone optimization help me? Hormone optimization mimics hormone production in your body to balance hormone levels back to normal. This form of treatment contains female hormones that your body stops making when you hit menopause. However, hormone optimization isn't just for women going through menopause. Hormone optimization may also help patients with hormonal acne, postpartum depression or those that struggle with bladder control & an overactive thyroid. Many Patients report that hormone replacement therapy has made a huge improvement in the following areas: Relief from hot flashes and night sweats. Better sleep Higher sex drive Overall better mood More energy to get through the day Relief from hormone-related symptoms What are my options? There are many types of hormone therapy. After you see a hormone specialist to find out which hormones are over or under active you can make the best decision for with treatment to go through. Let's explore the different types of hormone treatments out there Pills Most of the time these pills contain estrogen or progesterone you take this medication to help balance low levels of estrogen or progesterone in the body. Your hormone specialist will discuss when and how often you need to take these supplements. It's important that you take these with accuracy. As too much or too little of this medication can cause side effects or lessen the effectiveness of this treatment. If you are forgetful or have trouble sticking to a routine this form of treatment may not be for you. Patches Skin patches are another common form of hormone therapy. This patch contains levels of hormones your body needs to be in balance and slowly releases into your system. Your hormone specialist will discuss the frequency you will need to change the patch and which ones will work best for you. This seemingly easy solution can be effective but does require you to be accurate on how often to change them out etc. Injections These injections are administered into the body as a shot to combat hormone-related symptoms you may be having. The frequency of these injections can vary based on your individual needs. Pellet Therapy Pellet therapy is the most popular for patients experiencing symptoms of hormonal imbalance. The treatment is called pellet therapy because it comes in the form of tiny pellets that are placed under the skin, which allows the body to absorb trace amounts of vital hormones for 3-4 months at a time. Since pellets are bio-identical, they mimic the natural molecular structure of the hormones you have naturally occurring in the body, such as testosterone and estradiol. Depending on the hormone levels your body needs, this treatment will steadily release hormones for a 5 to 6-month period. See what Dr. Yvette Suarez has to say about this treatment. At AgeRejuvenation, our practitioners use a natural pellet hormone therapy also known as Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). - Brett Markowitz, Founder of Age Rejuvenation Bio-identical hormones are derived from natural sources, such as a yams or roots, that best mimic the molecular structure of the hormones we naturally create. This way, our body can readily identify the hormones and levels are restored within the body. Ready to see if bioidentical hormone therapy could be right for you? Contact a hormone specialist today.
